We would like to express our deep grievances for our brothers and sisters who had fallen and wish revival for survivors of the December 13, 2003 genocide act committed by tyranny Meles Zenawi and his brutal regime against the Anyuak tribe people of South Western Ethiopia.
December 13, 2003 is the darkest day in Anyuaks history that nobody forgets it. The TPLF/ EPRDF brutal government had committed genocide against Anyuak people in broad day-light. It claimed 423 educated Anyuaks lives in a single day and more than 1000 innocent Anyuaks including children and women were massacred and buried in mass graves in Gambela town in the subsequent days. This brutal act is/ will not be expected from a country with legitimate and democratic government in the In addition to the killing of innocent people, the TPLF/EPRDF dictatorship government had forced thousands of Anyuaks out of their ancestral land (Gamble Regional State) to exile in neighboring countries such as South Sudan, North Sudan and Kenya.
The TPLF/EPRDF is a dictator and irresponsible government that won’t learn anything from its past mistakes. Currently, in pretext of the so-called Regional development transformation program, it resumes its genocide act against the indigenous people in the entire Gambela Regional State.
Its land grabbing policy and apartheid system has left thousands of indigenous people landless and forces them to be foreign aid recipients in concentration camps where there are no social services such as: clean water, basic health care and education.
Today we’re commemorating the ninth anniversary of our fallen brothers and sisters and the painful and horrible day in the history of Anyuak. In addition, the Gambela Peoples United Movement/ Front would like to calling upon all Anyuaks to unite and strengthen their fight against TPLF/EPRDF government which is already on the verge of collapse.
We would also ask all Ethiopian democratic parties and civic society to stand side by side with the people of Gambela in this historic day to renew our heroic struggle and solidarity against the TPLF/EPRDF.
We shall win!
Central Committee of Gambela People’s United Movement/ Front
